About

DR NORBERTTA MAKUMBE

Self and Family

Norbertta Makumbe is an open book. What you see is what you get. She is a wife and a mother to two energetic boys, Agape & Noah.

When she is not spending her time making a difference in other people’s children’s lives, she is spending it with her family.

Studies

She completed her studies in MBChB in 2011 at the University of Zimbabwe, after which she spent 2 years of internship in Bulawayo, where she fell in love with paediatrics and child health.

“I didn’t choose paediatrics, paediatrics chose me”

She then spent 2 years in the Department of Paediatrics at Mpilo Central Hospital Bulawayo as a medical officer , where she was part of the team that helped transform the department.

In August 2015 she started her studies in paediatrics and child health at the world renowned Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital under the University of Cape Town South Africa. She obtained her Fellowship in Paediatrics from the College of Medicines of South Africa in 2018.

She joined the Division of Pulmonology in January 2020 as a senior registrar, after having spent the preceding 6 months as a senior registrar in the Paediatric ICU at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital.

In 2021 she was awarded her Master of Medicine in Paediatrics with a distinction. Also in the same year she completed her specialist studies in paediatric pulmonology and was awarded The Connor Farrell Medal, for her outstanding performance in the paediatric pulmonology examinations.

Teaching and training

Dr Makumbe is a passionate and skilled teacher, with over 20 years of teaching experience in different forums.

Advanced Paediatric life Support & Paediatric Life Support

Dr Makumbe has been teaching other health care professionals how to resuscitate children effectively for over 8 years. She has been an APLS director since 2017 and as of 2022 she became a course director.

Healthcare professional teaching

Dr Makumbe has been involved with teaching medical professions for over 10 years. At present she is volunteer part time lecturer at the University Of Namibia (UNAM) and National University of Science and Technology Zimbabwe.

In addition she regularly assists the state (Windhoek Central Hospital a& Katutura Hospital) with advise on complex respiratory cases
